Hair Cuts

As I mentioned in a previous post, the girls got pretty dramatic haircuts here at the end of the summer.  They both really wanted to have short hair - and I let them go on line to create what they wanted those cuts to look like.  Though I did not really let them get those cuts....seriously Brooke wanted these awful bangs.

Kindergarten

School starts early down here. We had kindergarten orientation on August 8 (as a side note, that was our anniversary - kindergarten orientation was just what we thought that we would be doing for our 15 year anniversary!!)  It was at orientation that we found out who the teachers were.  Audrey is in Mrs. Knecht's class and Brooke is in Mrs. Thorne's class.  (as another side note, they are in the two PACE classes for kindergarten - which stands for providing accelerated curriculum early - so we were very proud of them both.)  As another side note, I am the PTO president for the girls' school this year.  Not really relevant to this post but it has been keeping me pretty busy here at the beginning of the year.

The first day of school was August 12, but the kindergarten does a stagger start where the boys go, then the girls, then the boys, then the girls, and then all of them together that Friday.

Hilton Head

Well - I have finally made it to August.  So I am just now realizing that I seem to have misplaced my small camera that I took most of my beach pictures with.  That is a giant bummer!!  Here are a few of the ones that I do have.  Clearly it was super windy when we were doing our photo shoot on the beach.
On the way to the beach we had breakfast at Krispy Kreme....they LOVED the conveyor belt with all the donuts....and who am I kidding.  So did I!

We stopped to see D's Granny!

Brooke seems to be overseeing things on the beach.

Just before our trip, I finally let the girls get their hair cut short.  I don't know why I didn't do it sooner as it is just so adorable that way!

D's cousin Lauren was super brave and brought her boyfriend Chris to the beach this year.  He was fabulous with the kids...D enjoyed sharing the jungle gym duties with him.

Working on some grand masterpiece - I also like to have a supervisory role!

The sweet cousins! They played so so well this year.  It was so fun to be around.
 Sisterly love at its best

On the way home we stopped at Lane orchards - it was neat to see all the peaches on the conveyor belts.

Kidney Stone

This post is not about the girls, but about big D.  The Thursday of camp, I walked into the bedroom to tell D that we were about to leave for camp and he was balled up in the bed.  So I asked him what was wrong and he said that it felt like he had a kidney stone.  Immediately, I googled kidney stone symptoms and he said yep that seemed right.  But he thought I should go ahead and take the girls to camp and then we would see if he thought he needed to go to the doctor.  It was quite a blessing that the girls had camp all day!

So when I got home from dropping them off (which only took 30 minutes or less) he was a gross sweaty, throwing up mess.  I loaded us up into the van and we immediately went to the ER. Totally worth it!  The admitting nurse when she looked at D said 'you certainly have the kidney stone look!'  They gave him some mega-drugs and suddenly the pain seemed to almost disappear.  They did a scan and it seemed like there was only the one stone - hooray!  And we learned that the super painful part of a kidney stone is the journey from the kidney to the bladder which is the passing part.  Not the passing from the body.  Interesting.

The hospital did wash the stone and sent it home with us.
I tried to take a picture of D in the waiting room of the ER - it is an awful picture but it summarizes the pain and pacing that was going on.
Taking his vitals before the drugs!
And it is out!  D swears that it felt like it was 10 times that size.

BREC camp

We had a super busy summer and one of the weeks that the girls enjoyed the most was their week of camp.  It was an all day camp - 8 - 5 - and they did field trips for 4 of the 5 days.  And of course two of their best friends, Lauren and Anya, were there too so it was clearly set up to be awesome!

Here they are on day 1 - they were so excited to go!
Totally unrelated but I wanted to put a picture of our flowers somewhere.  These are the ones that grew from the seeds they planted at the daddy daughter banquet!
Audrey being silly eating her waffle cone - on waffle cone wednesday of course.
With their friend Lauren - who they had a slumber party with during the week of camp!

Trip to Houston

The girls and I traveled to Houston in July to visit with some of our friends.  We had a great time with everyone we saw and I got to enjoy some good Houston food!!

While we were in Houston, Audrey lost another tooth - this was tooth number 4 - on the bottom.

Me with my friends Crystal and Jennifer and all of our girls
The girls with Evie and Ava riding on a giant caterpillar
How gross!! This is a roach dome.  Brooke does not know how disturbing this really is!
Brooke getting ready to identify the different butterflies in the butterfly exhibit.

The girls with Ava looking at some Faberge eggs.  I don't think that they liked it as much as I did!

Audrey with Carter - the two of them were so ubercute on this trip!

Brooke with Olivia.  Carter and Olivia are our twin friends!

Me with my friend Leslie!  We go way back to my pre-kids, pre-teaching, accounting life!
