Labor Day at Reel Inn

One of our friends has a fishing camp in south Louisiana (which is really not a shock as almost all LA residents have some type of camp!) and invited us to join them for part of Labor Day weekend down there.

Lonnie showing D how to shoot the bow.
Me taking my shot with the bow.  Super cool!! I think I could become a hunter!
 Just a pretty picture

We went on a swamp tour while we were there too.  Unfortunately it was in the middle of gator season so we did not see too many gators.

This was a neat bridge cause it is on wheels so that it can turn to allow boats to pass underneath.
The kids were looking at some giant snail thing
Cute family photo
Another pretty picture - I am just so artsy with my photos!
Here comes the gator to eat the chicken leg
Crazy how fast he jumped up and snatched that chicken!

We stopped at the Oak Alley Plantation on the way home.  It is GORGEOUS!  I love the trees!  Here are some pictures from that stop.  Can you guess which part was the girls' favorite?

My little stars

The girls really are loving kindergarten and they are both doing so well.  It is such a delight to hear them talk about school with such joy - and I love to hear their stories.

Audrey's class is a little more loosey goosey.  But with that said, she comes home with a giant stack of work about every two weeks.  And it has the objective that they are learning written on it.  I just can't imagine being a kindergarten teacher!  One thing that they do in her class is an estimation box.  Kids get to bring home the box and count out items to take to school the next day.  Then all of the kids take turns guessing.  I tried to get Audrey to take wine corks this past time...she said 'mom - that would be embarrassing!'  Ha.
Here is Audrey working on some sight words - and working on her aim!

Audrey was selected to be the star student for her class for the month of September.  So proud of my little Bear!

Brooke's class is a little more structured - complete with different reading groups and math groups.  And there is lots of repeating back and forth (Whoop, whoop - good job writer Brooke). It is super cute.  Brooke is in the fleur de lis math group.  Math is interesting here.  There is a big emphasis on doing stuff with a ten frame and knowing all of the different number pairs (ex: 5 is 0,5 and 1,4, and 3,2 etc)

Here is Brooke's self portrait showing her five senses.  They have been working on including "quality details."

Brooke was selected as the star student for her class for the month of October.

Here is Brooke showing off writing her spelling words in a "fun" way.

TEETH

The tooth fairy has had many visits to our house this past year.  I am not sure what all I have blogged about so I am gonna do a summary post of all the teeth shenanigans around here.

Audrey:

Tooth 1: November 15, 2012

Tooth 2: December 20, 2012

Tooth 3: February 28, 2013

Tooth 4: July 9, 2013

Tooth 5: August 20, 2013 – swallowed

Tooth 6: September 22, 2013

Brooke:
This picture is actually before Brooke lost her first tooth...there is such a giant hole cause the tooth is in there all caddy-wompus.
So here is D giving that tooth one final tug

Tooth 1: August 27, 2013:  She was so excited to finally lose her first tooth!

Tooth 2: September 13, 2013 - and then just a few weeks later tooth number two came out.

So as of the beginning of October we are at a count of Audrey 6, Brooke 2
